Purpose in Action

Our Mission is to reduce the consequences of poverty on the Long Beach Peninsula within the Ocean Beach School District.

Peninsula Poverty Response (PPR) was founded in March 2012. It all started with a small group of people who had the goal of working together to lessen the adverse effects of poverty on the Long Beach Peninsula.

We are a 501(c)(3) charity. PPR is primarily volunteer driven and focuses on coordination of community events to raise funds and provide much needed services.

'Median household income in Pacific County is over $27,000 lower than the state average.'

Why We Act

In Pacific County, about 11.6% of residents live below the federal poverty line—higher than the Washington state average. Even more alarming, nearly 18% of children in the county are growing up in poverty. While Washington’s median income is over $84,000, the median in Pacific County is significantly lower at just over $57,000. Many people here struggle to afford basic necessities like food, housing, healthcare, and transportation. Limited access to jobs, healthcare, and stable housing creates real barriers for families trying to get ahead.

The 2024 Point-in-Time Count identified 107 people experiencing homelessness in Pacific County. While some were in shelters, many were living in cars, sheds, tents, or other places not meant for housing. These neighbors—children, adults, and elders—often remain unseen by the broader public, yet their needs are urgent. Poverty on the Peninsula isn’t always visible, but its impact is deeply felt. At Peninsula Poverty Response, we work to bridge the gap between those in crisis and the resources they need to survive—and thrive.
